zines

"What is a zine?" you may be asking. (Lots of people ask!)

A zine is a self-published, non-commercial work, typically produced in small quantities, that serves as a platform for personal expression, niche interests, or alternative viewpoints. While the term "zine" is a shortened form of "fanzine," its meaning has broadened to encompass any self-published, often handmade or digitally produced, booklet or pamphlet.

The format is intentionally flexible, allowing creators to express themselves freely without the constraints of traditional publishing. This DIY spirit has historically empowered dissidents, activists, and artists to share ideas and build community, from the early 20th century pamphlets to modern zines on topics ranging from feminism to music and personal identity.
